John Siong is a senior legal practitioner with over 26 years’ experience in migration, corporate and cross-border legal practice. Based in Brisbane, he advises corporate and private clients on complex migration strategies, regulatory compliance and Australia–Asia commercial matters. His expertise includes employer-sponsored visas, skilled migration pathways, entrepreneurial and business innovation visas, and the National Innovation visa program, as well as high-level advisory work involving cross-jurisdictional considerations.
John is recognised for his strategic, commercially focused approach. Drawing on extensive leadership experience across legal and business sectors, he provides clear, practical advice tailored to each client’s objectives. His experience includes establishing and leading Asian practice divisions, advising multinational enterprises, high-growth entrepreneurs and investors, and assisting businesses expanding into Australia.
In addition to his legal practice, John maintains active academic appointments. He is due to complete his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) this year. He has teaching experience at QUT’s Faculty of Business and Law and has also taught at Guangzhou University Law School and Beijing Institute of Technology Law School (Zhuhai Campus), contributing to the development of common law and international legal education programs.
John is also a Director of the Australian Chamber of Commerce – South China, where he supports Australia–China commercial engagement and professional services collaboration across the Greater Bay Area. This role complements his cross-border legal practice and strengthens his engagement with corporate, entrepreneurial and institutional stakeholders operating between Australia and China.
John holds a Juris Doctor, a Master of Business Administration in Australia and a Bachelor of Management from Canada. Prior to and alongside his legal career, he has held senior management roles across the hospitality, banking and finance, and retail sectors in Brunei, Canada, China and Australia. This extensive commercial background underpins his practical, solutions-oriented legal advice and strong understanding of business operations across diverse markets.
Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, John works effectively across diverse cultural and regulatory environments and is highly regarded for building trusted, long-term professional relationships.
